michelin madness

The Michelin star ratings for Los Angeles were leaked a few months back, and it just now occurred to me that I might get some enjoyment out of knocking these restaurants off my to-do list in 2008.

The list, as cribbed from la.foodblogging:

One Star (*):

Asanebo, Studio City
CUT, Beverly Hills
Dining Room at the Ritz-Carlton, Huntington (The), Pasadena
Joe’s, Venice
La Botte, Santa Monica
Matsuhisa, Beverly Hills
Mori Sushi, Los Angeles
Ortolan, Hollywood
Patina, Los Angeles
Providence, Hollywood
Saddle Peak Lodge, Calabasas
Sona, Hollywood
Trattoria Tre Venezie, Pasadena
Valentino, Santa Monica
Water Grill, Los Angeles

Two Stars (**)

Melisse, Santa Monica
Spago, Beverly Hills
Urasawa, Beverly Hills

Mori’s a great restaurant, Joe’s is a good restaurant (though a little heavy on the attitude), but those are the only two on the list that I’ve actually been to. Hopefully we’ll fix that soon.

I’ve been to the Water Grill, Saddle Peak, Valentino, Patina and Joe’s. All good eats, especially the Water Grill. If your down to spend a few quid, I’d be down to go a little star search.

How is AOC not on this list?

Yeah, AOC, Lucques, Georgio Baldi. There’s a couple headscratchers there, including but not limited to the fact that Valentino is widely considered to be overrated and overpriced, and Mario Batali is occasionally referred to using words like “derivative” and “hack.”

Maybe next year, Lucques, maybe next year…
