whoah

I feel like I can read the rebuttals already, Rolling Stone, bastion of liberalism, owned by an unabashed liberal, preaching to the converted, launches a sprawling hit piece on the man and myth of John McCain. Will anyone pay attention, will anyone even take the time to issue a point-by-point response, or will it simply get dismissed as more MSM claptrap? More spurned lover bullshit from McCain’s former base?

Will it move any votes or change any minds? I honestly don’t even know who reads Rolling Stone anymore. The political coverage has always struck me as out of date and simplistic, and the music stories finally lost me when, sometime in the ’90s a cover asked “Will Jesus Jones Save Rock ‘n’ Roll?” These days its relevance puzzles me. While they publish Get Your War On, I would be unable to name a single recent article even if asked at gunpoint.

So who knows? Maybe this is the kind of thing that will trickle into the mainstream and strip off the veneer of bullshit that McCain has apparently spent his whole life carefully applying. Or maybe a few liberals will forward it to their friends and that will be it. We’ve got a month to go, and it seems that McCain is preparing to descend even further into the muck in an attempt to beat Obama, so sooner or later, somebody’s going to have to start taking shots at the Maverick. This isn’t a bad start.

(I wouldn’t know about either of those stories without the glorious Talking Points Memo)
