Hey, how ya been? Ready for another bushel of sweet tunes? Of course you are:

Lately – The Helio Sequence

My friend Henry turned me on to these dudes by dragging me to a show at the Bowery Ballroom last May. I really liked the show, but the album took a while to grow on me. Consider it grown now, though, since I’ve got two tracks in this episode. This is from Keep Your Eyes Ahead.

Heroes – TV on the Radio

A cover of David Bowie’s classic (Jakob Dylan’s version is also, I’m sad to say, pretty good). The original appears in a series of Microsoft commercials from the ’90s that are still some of the coolest things I’ve ever seen. This song has nothing to do with that, though, it’s from an interesting compilation called War Child – Heroes – Vol. 1 that also features folks like Beck, Franz Ferdinand, Lily Allen, and The Hold Steady, aka the most overrated band in the world.

10 Ways of Return – Marcel

This is from Nightmares On Wax Presents Wax On Records, a mix cd I’ve been sampling pretty liberally for use on the nurblecast. Pretty soon, with a little effort, you’ll be able to reconstruct the entire album on your own. Okay, a lot of effort. It would probably be better for everyone if you just bought it like a normal person.

Diego’s Theme – Boca 45

I don’t think Boca 45 needs any explanation, and I don’t think I could provide one if asked to. They’re just cool. This is from Vertigo Sounds.

Shakatakadoodub – Kruder & Dorfmeister

New K&D! From the Shakawakawhatever EP. These guys rule. Even at 7 minutes long, this track is incredibly chill.

Rewrite (Justus Kohncke Remix) – Sia

Huh? Sia? Never heard of her. I’m more of a Justus Kohncke fan, myself, the Sia is just a coincidence… This is from the Remixes 2 EP. In all seriousness, I’m sad to report that the other remixes of Sia’s stuff are pretty weak. Her production on her regular albums is so spot on that it’s really hard to improve the songs in any way. Maybe it’s a lack of imagination on my part, but I’d like to impose a ban on Sia remixes, and so help me if anyone ever covers Breathe Me or Distractions, I’m going to have them killed.

Exercise 3 – Bent

Weird and wonderful old Bent, from Everlasting Blink.

Ray Ray (Slope Remix) – Fat Freddy’s Drop

Just a cool funky track off of Slope is Dope, a Sonar Collective compilation from 2006. I live mostly in the past.

Live and Let Die – Duffy

Another track from the War Child comp. mentioned earlier. Duffy’s pretty awesome, thanks go to Larry Ewing for turning me on to her early enough to catch her on Saturday Night Live.

Makes No Sense – Boca 45

Again, Boca 45 from Vertigo Sounds, still nothing to add.

Hallelujah – The Helio Sequence

And more Helio to wrap things up. I got nuthin’.

So Apple’s got this “Genius” feature now in iTunes. It’s pretty great, akshully, in that it will probably bankrupt me sooner rather than later. Like Amazon’s recommendations, it looks at what you’ve bought, and what other people who bought the same things have bought, and matrixes that info into surprisingly accurate suggestions for additional purchases. I’ve had it turned on for about 15 minutes and it’s already cost me $30.
I’ve already found new Skeewiff and brand spanking new Mr. Scruff. Both very exciting. I’ve also rediscovered Boca45, whom I’d completely forgotten about. Plus I took a chance on someone called Maelstrom & Napz, which is a little housy and slightly cheap-sounding, but otherwise isn’t bad.
Another exciting innovation I’d like to share with you is this iPhone remote business. I hooked a mac mini up to my stereo, plugged a hard drive into it containing pretty much every piece of music I’ve ever bought, downloaded, or been given (a shocking waste of a g-raid, I’d say, if they weren’t so unreliable), and sat back and controlled itunes from my couch, using my phone. Fucking sweet.
Large libraries like mine are a little unwieldy on a tiny phone screen, but if you just want to fire up an album or a particular artist, it’s dead easy to do, and the resulting calm allowed me to fall blissfully to sleep on my sofa.

Oh hey everybody,

So you may have noticed that I promised a new podcast a while back (lets look and see exactly when…) July 10th. Wow. Anyway, I haven’t actually laid it down yet, for a variety of reasons, which I will list for you in the handy and popular excuse format here:

Apple de-listed my podcast. Fuckers. Probably something about the hour of copy… written? righted? ILLEGAL music it contained. So I had to figure out how to retrofit all of my subscribe links and update my podcasting upload settings. This usually takes some googling and a few visits to various discussion forums and FAQs. It’s quick, but unpleasant.

I just moved, and rarely have an hour to sit and listen to music without getting lulled into drinking a beer or twenty. I also no longer have the attention span necessary to listen to an entire song, and just end up skipping through the whole playlist in less than ten minutes

I’m extremely depressed about the fact that Barack Obama is only polling 5 points ahead of an angry, deceitful, dishonorable old man and his empty-headed, completely unqualified running mate.

Apparently our economy has collapsed.

Anyhoo, I’ll try to get all this nonsense sorted out sooner rather than later, just wanted you all to know I’m about as on top of it as you’d expect me to be, which is not at all really. Particularly the economy, which is not my problem at all.

Good luck out there.
